Blacks Harbour School is located in the village of Blacks Harbour, Charlotte County, NB, in School District 10.
Blacks
Harbour is the center of a
large fishing industry, which includes both a traditional fishery and an
aquaculture industry. The economy of the region is resource based and dependent
upon seasonal employment.
The student population of 155
ranges from kindergarten to grade six. This populace is drawn from Blacks Harbour , Beaver Harbour , Pennfield, Pocologan and Lepreau.
Most of the students are bused to school.
The
school complex is comprised of two buildings connected by an underground
tunnel. The school’s large size affords many classrooms, a full-sized
gymnasium, mid-sized auditorium, computerized library, computer room and
full-service cafeteria.
Blacks Harbour School ’s staff of 12 teachers offers a
full range of learning opportunities including student enrichment, resource and
methods, and literacy support. Traditionally, the school has been able to
deliver specialty service by professionally qualified specialists in Resource,
French Second Language, Guidance, Physical Education, Music and Administration.
Within this compliment there is a Literacy Support Teacher serving K-3 students
and four Teacher Assistants, one of which is a certified Autism Support Worker,
specializing in applied behaviour analysis.
Students have access to an
intramural sports program, library club, chess club and computer club. Various
school community partnerships provide after school opportunities for co-ed
gymnastics, basketball and martial arts.
